The Košice Children's Historic Railway was built in Košice between 1955 and 1956 as the Pioneer's Railway. The local track was financed by the Ministry of Transport and was the first recreational railway in former Czechoslovakia. Inspired by similar railways in the Soviet Union at the time, it also served to educate and motivate young railway workers.
Today, the track is 3.9 km long, with a unique gauge of 1000 mm (the same as the tram tracks in Bratislava and the Tatra Electric Railway), and has a maximum incline of 26‰. At the Čermeľ station, you can find historic switches and rails from the Štiavnica Railway that are still in use. The rolling stock, aside from the diesel locomotive, is listed as a movable national cultural monument in the Central List of Monuments of the Slovak Republic (UZPF SR).
