About why we are Zlatý Hýľ

Once upon a time, more than 777 years ago, in a forest near a beautiful meadow, many small singing birds, the "hýľs," lived.

Many people used to visit this forest to pick mushrooms, and among them was Štefan, who liked it so much there that he built a little house where he moved in with his family and started calling himself Štefan Hýľ.

It didn’t take long before others came to live with Štefan’s family, and a village called Hýľov was formed.

Štefan's son, Tomáš, often watched the birds dancing all around. One day, he saw one bird that was very special. When he got closer, he saw golden dust on its feathers... Tomáš couldn’t sleep all night because of the "hýľ" birds with golden feathers.

The next morning, as the first light of dawn broke, Tomáš gathered the best seeds to prepare for his new friend and decided to follow the bird all day to find out where the golden powder on its wings came from.

The bird flew, and Tomáš followed it; occasionally, it would stop to rest, and the bird would come and peck the seeds Tomáš had prepared.

After a long journey, they arrived at a cave by the stream. When Tomáš entered it, he couldn’t believe his eyes – the cave was glittering with gold.

Tomáš immediately told his father about the cave, and they began mining the gold, becoming very rich.

When the king heard about this, he sent helpers, who settled near the golden cave, and that’s how the village of Zlatá Idka was founded.

But what happened to the golden hýľ? When it flew back to its family, they drove it away because its golden feathers made it different. It could no longer go to the cave where it used to play, because there were now many people mining gold. So, it settled in a beautiful, quiet place between Hýľov and Zlatá Idka, where it built a nest. It found a mate who liked the place, and they lived happily there for a long time. Their children, their children’s children, and their descendants still live there today. And that place is called Zlatý Hýľ.

It is here, with love and respect for nature, that we have built a place of rest, relaxation, and so much more to delight the body and soul...
